Traditional Norwegian music
A typical Norwegian instrument is the Hardanger fiddle. The name originates in the Westnorwegian region Hardanger near Bergen. The uniqueness is its 4 to 5 resonance strings, which lie underneath the 4 normal strings. Because of this, the violin has a unique, squeaking and high tone. In contrast to the normal violin, the Hardanger fiddle is more flat and it has ornaments on the finger board. In 1651 it was created by Ole Jonsen Jaastad and nowadays it is still used to play Norwegian folk music.
